Stainless Steel

Stainless Steel Coil is a continuous rolled flat product engineered from an Iron base (Fe), strategically alloyed with a critical minimum of Chromium (Cr: ≥10.5%) to ensure passivity, along with specific additions of Nickel (Ni: 0–20%), Molybdenum (Mo: 0–7%), or Carbon (C) depending on the specific series (200, 300, 400 series, Duplex, etc.). This precise metallurgical formulation delivers superior mechanical properties, characterized by exceptional durability, high tensile and yield strength, outstanding corrosion and oxidation resistance, and superior high-temperature stability. Consequently, it serves as a critical raw material across diverse industries, ranging from architectural facades and structural components, medical and food processing equipment, and automotive exhaust systems to marine applications and general engineering.

STT Parameter / Item Description & Examples Remarks for Trading
Standard Specification ASTM A240 (USA), JIS G4305 (Japan), EN 10088-2 (Europe). Specifies the chemical composition and mechanical properties tolerance.
Alloy Designation (Grade) 300 Series: 304, 304L, 316L (Austenitic).400 Series: 430, 409L, 410, 439 (Ferritic/Martensitic). Grade selection dictates price and corrosion resistance. 304 is standard; 316L is for marine; 430 is for indoor/magnetic.
Temper / Hardness ANN (Annealed): Soft, standard for forming.Hardness: 1/4H, 1/2H, 3/4H, FH (Full Hard) for springs/clips. Standard stock is usually Annealed. Hard material requires custom rolling and has higher MOQ.
Dimensions (T x W) Thickness: 0.3mm – 3.0mm (CR); 3.0mm – 10.0mm (HR).Width: 1000mm, 1219mm (4′), 1250mm, 1500mm, 1524mm (5′). Standard widths (1219/1250mm) are most economical. Non-standard widths require slitting fees.
Surface Finish 2B: Smooth, matte (Standard for industrial/tank).BA: Bright Annealed (Mirror-like, for appliances).No.4: Brushed/Satin (For elevators, kitchen).HL: Hairline (Long grain, for architectural).No.1: Hot rolled, rough (For industrial plate). Crucial: 2B is the base material. BA, No.4, and HL are value-added finishes and cost more.
Surface Protection (PVC) PE Film: 50-80 microns (Blue/Black/White).Laser Film: Fiber or CO2 laser cutting compatible.Paper Interleave: Paper between layers (No PVC). Polished surfaces (No.4/HL/BA) usually require PVC to prevent scratches. 2B can be Paper Interleaved.
Edge Condition Mill Edge (ME): Rough, slightly uneven width.Slit Edge (SE): Trimmed, precise width, smooth edge. Mill Edge is cheaper but width tolerance is larger (+5/-0mm). Slit Edge is required for precise automated feeding.
Coil I.D. (Inner Diameter) 508mm (20″): Standard for Cold Rolled (CR).610mm (24″): Standard for Hot Rolled (HR) or heavy coils. Must confirm with customer’s uncoiler machine capacity.
Coil Weight Standard: 3 – 5 MT per coil (Baby coil).Full coil: 10 – 20 MT (Master coil). Lighter coils (Baby coils) may incur a “rewinding surcharge”. Confirm max lifting capacity of customer.
Core Type Paper / Fiber Core: Standard for domestic/light coils.Steel / Metal Core: Required for export or heavy coils. Steel cores prevent the coil from collapsing (telescoping) during long sea freight.
MOQ Minimum Order Quantity per size/grade.Ex: 20 MT (1 FCL container). Mixed sizes in one container are often allowed, but typically min 3-5 MT per item.
End Application E.g., Deep drawing (sinks), Laser cutting, Tube making, Roofing. Knowing the application helps the mill select the right material (e.g., choosing 304 DDQ for deep sinks).
